In 1892, the artist duo founded the Munich Secession, thus laying the foundation for 20th century historicism. Franz von Stuck died in Munich on 30 August 1928. In 1906 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown for his achievements and was knighted. In 1985 Von Stuck became a professor at the Academy in Munich, where he taught artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Josef Jengge and Heinrich Strieffler.
At the Königliche Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich, the son of a village miller met the sculptor and painter Ferdinand Barth, who introduced him to the painter Wilhelm Trübner.
